Time to put the needle on the record...........

I love this saying....Put the needle on the record! To me it means gotta get going Allison! It’s time to rock and roll and work hard, work fast and work furiously. Time to put some loud music on and make some art! Music is essential to get inspired for me. I love my music.  There’s really 3 stages to clay: hand building, painting/glazing( I always call it painting because it really is painting for me) I create my designs and then paint them. Once at an art festival another potter came over and asked me my process. I started explaining to her that I am a painter posing as a potter. She kinda of looked at me weirdly and said “That explains everything, your work is beautiful”. What a compliment! The best ever coming from another artist. She also said “You’re selling your stuff too  cheap”, but that’s a conversation for another day😊. Oh, and the third stage of clay is firing.Firing is firing, no creativity there, unless you fire raku, that is a creative process! But, I have...

Just moving forward.... A Friday thought

It is an interesting life trying to establish a business while working full time. My dream is to have a thriving business selling my art, whether it’s my clay work or my paintings. Art is my all time passion. I truly don’t wake up 1 day without thinking about what I can do creatively. Does that sound like a cliche??? I gotta tell you it is my life even if it is. If I’m not thinking of something creative for myself to do, I’m creating  art lessons for my students. AND I get to create the examples. Hence continuing that daily creative flow. I  also love teaching art to kids! I always tell my students that I have the best job in the school! I’m not going to get into it but I will say, this year has been tough teaching, even art!  So, getting back to juggling your life, work and passion......I know there are others of you that feel the same way about your pa...

Artist, Art instructor, mother, wife, grandmother.....give me anything creative and I will try it! I have been an art teacher for over 20 years and an artist all of my life.   I grew up in Boise Idaho, then moved to Seattle Washington where I lived for 21 years and raised my 2 children.  7 years ago my husband and I moved to Mesa Arizona. I have always been an oil painter painting landscapes and people.  Since moving to Arizona I have re-established my love of clay.....maybe being down in the Southwest desert has tapped me into the Southwestern art. However this change happened, I am truly enjoying creating and designing my bowls....and now all sorts of things. I started making my serving bowls July of 2016.  They have evolved from circular designs to more organic designs. In the last few years I have expanded from making my serving bowls to different bowls, plates, platters, candle orbs, canisters and clocks.  This year I have even tried creating ta...
